During his six-year stay in Madrid, Chuzo was a key part of the team that made history. After conquering Europe, Chuzo returned to his native Andalusia in 1963 and signed for Málaga CD. He spent eight years in the jersey of the local club, becoming one of the club’s icons. With Málaga, he experienced relegation from the league and three promotions in Primera, remaining loyal to the club until the end of his career in 1971.
He played one match for the Spanish national football team, on October 30, 1960, against Austria in Vienna. With that performance, he entered history as the first player from Málaga to play for the senior national team. His talent was visible even at a young age; with the U-18 national team, he won silver at the European Championship in 1957.
As a thank you for everything he did for sports and the promotion of his region, his hometown of Antequera named a street after him.
