Journalist Aaron Wilson revealed that the 24-year-old American had practiced in front of the leaders of the Minnesota Vikings.

After his college career with the University of South Dakota Coyotes, Theis was passed over in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, he participated in the Denver Broncos’ rookie camp before joining the Alouettes last May.

In 12 games with Montreal this season, the Kansas native amassed 365 yards on 70 carries. He also caught 19 passes for 157 yards.

Theis also returned punts with the Sparrows. He also scored his only touchdown of the season on special teams on August 8 against the Edmonton Elks.

NFL teams wishing to try out a player under contract with a Canadian Football League (CFL) club must ask permission, although the request cannot be refused. If a football player receives a contract offer from a Goodell circuit team, he can terminate his CFL agreement without penalty. The Canadian organization, however, retains its rights for the duration of the canceled contract.

In the case of Theis, his agreement with the Alouettes is valid until the conclusion of the next campaign.
