Sevilla coach Matías Almeyda was sent off at half-time for a double yellow card and left extremely angry with the referee’s performance. A discomfort that he made public in his press conference after the controversial match at the Bernabéu.
“I am not a clown, I have a history as a man and men dialogue. And when humility is lacking… this man (the referee) today surpasses what dialogue can be and we are turning sport into authoritarianism,” stated the Sevilla coach.

Almeyda confessed to feeling very annoyed. “It hurts me a lot because I already said that I would not talk about the referees, but I feel forced because otherwise they will say that I have insulted or said something to the referee… please, journalists, ask for the audios; they are expelling me for claiming a foul,” he requested. “I am against refereeing because of how badly it directed, that’s why I was expelled,” he reiterated.
The Argentine coach sent a message that referees can be punished if they play a bad game. “At some point they will have to suspend a referee because he has directed poorly; I have never seen two penalties in a row,” lamented the Sevilla player.
He did not stop there, but wanted to add, I have one thing clear in life: “Between the one who remains silent and the one who speaks with respect, all my life I am going to stay with the one who speaks. The one who remains silent is a traitor, and I am not a traitor.”
