Kaleb Edwards, Michael Carroll, London Simmons and Dijon Lee Jr. were named to the All-SEC Freshman team, the most players on the Tennessee Volunteers’ roster.
It was a bold statement for DeBoer, who took over the team two years ago, replacing the legendary Nick Saban, and has been trying to rebuild the dynasty that has ruled college football for nearly two decades.

After a good first year that ended in disappointment when they failed to advance to the College Football Playoff, the Crimson Tide came back with a vengeance in 2025 by winning the SEC championship and advancing to the round of 16 of the national championship.
Right now, though, DeBoer is in the midst of rumors about an open position at Michigan. With speculators believing he will be the No. 1 pick, the Alabama coach appears focused on the task at hand as his team enters the playoffs.
Alabama will play on the road in the opening round against the powerful Oklahoma Sooners in what should be a tight defense between the two. The young man honored Thursday by the Crimson Tide will be crucial in shutting down the Sooners’ offense, which at times this season has struggled against a stout defense.
