The Deka FIT World Championship was held this weekend in Florida (USA), where the athlete from Hernani, Aitor Lizarazu, participated twice with a final classification. He took fourth place in the individual category and the title in the pairs category.
The first test in which Aitor took part was in the individual event, where he obtained fourth place with a time of 31:21, after Greyson Kilgore, from the United States, Isaac Sanderson, from Canada, and Ryan Kent, from the United States, being the first European, followed in seventh place by the Catalan Pau Nacenta.
Both Aitor and Pau were more thinking about the couples test that they would compete later, since having little recovery time they did not burn all their energy in the individual test, something that was vital to face it with guarantees.
Six hours later they had the elite couples test, where precisely the Catalan Pau Nacenta and the Hernani native Aitor Lizarazu presented themselves with the best time of the year in the modality, achieved in the Madrid test in July of this year by setting a time of 25:33.
In Saturday’s test they were presented as favorites, given that they had the best time of the year and from the third post they increased the distances with respect to the Walkington brothers, from the USA, until stopping the clock at 25:22, while the Americans stopped it at 26:15.
The champions demonstrated that they had well worked out the relays and, above all, that their tactics were perfectly developed, where Pau asserted himself in the 500-meter race relays that take place at the beginning and end between each of the strength and power tests, where it was Aitor who carried the weight.
Aitor Lizarazu has had an exceptional season with many participations in both Deka and Hyrox, which are the two most popular franchises in indoor crossfit. He has won in events in Madrid or Zaragoza, with a second place in Andorra and several participations in Europe with podium positions, participating in singles, mixed doubles and men’s doubles in various events.
The Deka modality, in which the athlete from Hernani has shone this weekend, is CrossFit patented in the USA, a country in which it has great roots. In any case, it is also widely practiced in Europe.
