Former referee and football commentator Ahmet Çakar, who was detained in the ‘betting and match-fixing’ investigation in football carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, fell ill. Çakar, who said he did not feel well, was taken to the hospital with suspicion of heart attack.

It was learned that Çakar’s treatment continues, although no statement was made about his health condition.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In the statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, it was stated that within the scope of the second part of the series of investigations known to the public as “Betting Investigations in Football”, there were data obtained from the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) presidency and legal betting sites, open source research and analysis studies and other evidence carried out on 101 football players who were sentenced to deprivation of rights at the meeting of the Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK) on November 13.
In the statement, it was stated that there were detention orders for 27 football players, including Galatasaray Sports Club’s professional football player Metehan Baltacı, who were found to bet on their own team’s match, Fenerbahçe Sports Club’s professional football player Mert Hakan Yandaş, who was determined to bet on legal betting sites through someone else, Ankaraspor Club owner Ahmet Okatan, Ankaraspor Club owner Ahmet Okatan, within the framework of the findings aimed at influencing the match result of the Ankaraspor-Nazilli Belediyespor football match played on April 28, 2024. It was stated that a detention order was issued for Club President Mehmet Emin Katipoğlu, Nazilli Belediyespor President Şahin Kaya and 2 coaches.
In the statement, it was stated that there was an agreement to influence the outcome of the Ümraniyespor-Giresunspor football match played on December 24, 2023, and in this context, a detention order was issued for 6 people, including 1 football player.
In the statement, it was stated that a detention order was given for 7 people, including Adana Demirspor Sports Club’s former president Murat Sancak, former football referee and current sports commentator Ahmet Çakar and his wife, and senior class referee Zorbay Küçük, who were determined to have suspicious financial transactions as a result of the examination of their bank accounts. A total of 46 suspects in Istanbul and 16 different provinces were submitted to the Istanbul Police Department for simultaneous arrest on the charge of “Opposing the Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports”. It was noted that detention, search and seizure instructions were given.

During the operation carried out by police teams, 38 suspects were detained and 5 suspects were found to be abroad.
