Africa Cup: Club Brugge player Raphael Onyedika and old acquaintance from Genk give Nigeria a perfect report in the group stage
At the African Cup, Nigeria qualified for the 1/8th finals in style with a 9 out of 9 in the group stage. Against Paul Put’s Uganda, Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika was the Nigerian hero with two goals.
Uganda-Nigeria was a match with a Belgian touch: all Nigerian goals had a link with the JPL.
Former Genk top scorer Paul Onuachu opened the score just before the half hour, just after he had already caused a big warning.
Belgian national coach Paul Put’s Uganda was under pressure and to make matters worse, goalkeeper Salim received a red card in the 2nd half when he touched the ball with his hand outside the sixteen.
With one male less, Uganda was a bird to the cat. Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika gave Put a ticket home with 2 goals in the 2nd half. Mato eased the pain for Uganda fifteen minutes before the end.
Nigeria can go to the 1/8th finals with a 9 out of 9. As number 2 in group C, Tunisia is also certain of the next round after a draw against Tanzania.
