The arrival of Takehiro Tomiyasu to Ajax is getting closer. According to Voetbal International, the Japanese will undergo a medical examination next week.
If the Japanese defender passes the medical examination, a ‘performance contract’ will be ready for him. The transfer-free Japanese will soon sign a contract until the end of this season. There could still be an opportunity to extend that contract, based on his performance this season. Tomiyasu has been clubless for months after leaving Arsenal. His contract was terminated there due to injuries.
Tomiyasu moved from Bologna to Arsenal in 2021 for around twenty million euros. He played 84 matches for the Londoners. The Japan international has received several compliments from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta over the years about his qualities and professionalism. Stubborn knee problems have caused persistent injuries in recent years.
Ajax has been monitoring his situation for a long time. The Amsterdam team wants to strengthen their options in the back positions and Tomiyasu would fit in well. Partly due to his flexibility on both flanks. His height, experience at the highest level and insight would be a welcome addition to the Amsterdam team’s selection. A reunion with fellow countryman Ko Itakura and the prospect of playing time speak in Ajax’s favor.
