“I thought I was going to do more, in this game I couldn’t. It doesn’t matter, if Inter falls, it’s falling with Abel. It doesn’t matter, I have to take over. I didn’t expect this situation. I expected that I could contribute more”, he reiterated, after the match at Vila Belmiro, in Santos.
Next, Abel cited the work of Ramón and Emiliano Díaz, who were at Inter before his arrival as coach. The Colorado idol worked with the Argentine duo in 2023, for Vasco.
“I worked with Ramón at Vasco in 2023, as sporting director. They do a wonderful job”, he commented.
Abel also spoke about his role within the Gaucho club. The coach was one of the main people responsible for winning the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup in 2006.
“I know what I represent. I know the pain you feel. I’m grateful to this club. To all the presidents I’ve had. Exceptional. I’m grateful for the boos I got. Don’t think I didn’t get booed. The balance (of my career at Inter) is very good”, he added.
São Paulo 3 x 0 Internacional
The first big chance came from São Paulo, just 1 minute into the opening half. Thiago Maia lost the ball to Marcos Antônio, who threw it to Luciano. In front of goal, the attacker headed the ball out wide.
Luciano missed another opportunity, again with a header, at 4′. The ball went over the baseline again.
São Paulo opens the scoring
Sabino took the score off 20 minutes into the first half. A ball thrown into the area by Ferreira stopped on the São Paulo defender’s head, which sank into Rochet’s net. Inter’s defense, completely confused, didn’t make it difficult to open the scoring.
Soon after, São Paulo’s second goal was almost achieved. Tapia was in front of the goal and shot for a good save by the Rio Grande do Sul team’s goalkeeper.
Inter miss incredible goal
With 30′, Bernabei received a throw and was in the face of Rafael’s goal. The left-back dribbled past the goalkeeper and finished, but Maik appeared on the line to clear it. All of this was useless, as the referee assistant flagged it offside.
Wide tricolor
In first-half stoppage time, Maik anticipated Juninho, shot from outside the area and had a deflection in the Inter defense — which ‘killed’ Rochet: 2-0 for São Paulo.
Luciano turns the game into a rout at the beginning of the 2nd half
Just 3 minutes into the second half, Luciano turned the match into a rout: 3-0 for São Paulo. The striker received a beautiful assist from Marcos Antônio and made a dig to beat Rochet.
A response from Inter appeared at 13′. Bruno Gomes took a free kick in the corner of Rafael, who stretched out and spread the ball.
Colorado was looking for a reaction, but demonstrated a lack of momentum and quality against a Tricolor that defended itself very well.
At 29′, Bernabei released a ‘bomb’ from the midfielder for Rafael’s defense. Nothing was of any use to the Gaucho team.
