On the Central, the world No.3 initially displayed a worrying level of play, making a series of unforced errors in the first set. The German found more accuracy in the second set and broke the Russian at the ideal time at 5-3, just before serving to win the set.
After a suspenseful fight in the last set, during which Zverev saved two match points, the German ended up winning after the tie-break. This was the 22nd clash between the two players since their first duel in 2016. They had already met in the final in Paris in 2020, with a victory for Medvedev in three sets (5-7, 6-4, 6-1).
