Vingegaard & Van Aert: Bond Beyond the Bike

They have often been weighed against each other in the past, and certainly last summer their relationship came under scrutiny. Partly thanks to Trine Hansen, Mrs. Vingegaard, the Dane now showed his cards in an exceptional way.

Setting priorities

Because although the media is of course happy to immediately link a big story to it, there are no immediate problems between Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert personally. Although the two-time Tour winner does not deny that they both have their ambitions, and that this must therefore always be managed well.

“I have big goals, and so does he. We have already proven in the past that we can combine that well. Of course Wout has a lot of personality and he also wants to achieve results. And if he is good, that is to everyone’s advantage,” Vingegaard remains relatively on the surface at Het Nieuwsblad.

Will they have to agree again in the Tour, or is it not for Van Aert this time? “Whether there are few stages that suit him in the 2026 Tour? I haven’t looked at the route in detail yet, so I can’t really say.”

To then make it clear what is most important in those 3 weeks of Tour de France: “I know that the team supports me in my classification goals. And if the main goal is winning the Tour, then that remains priority number one.”

Double Giro Tour?

Vingegaard will definitely head to France, but he may also be in Italy for three weeks first. “Participating in the Giro? We have not yet decided whether I will start there next season. We still have to discuss that with the team. The Tour of course remains the main goal. But the question now is whether we can combine both.”
