Vietnam aims for 40-50 gold medals at ASEAN Para Games 2025

The Vietnam Sports Authority announced that the Vietnamese delegation of disabled athletes will participate in the ASEAN Para Games 2025 with the ambitious goal of winning between 40 and 50 gold medals, while being among the top four nations in the general ranking.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, relevant bodies must ensure a rigorous selection process for coaches and athletes, in accordance with current regulations. The Vietnamese delegation will travel to Thailand in a spirit of solidarity, friendship, honesty and fair play, while affirming its commitment to combating all forms of unsporting behavior.

The delegation will have a total of 184 members, including 139 athletes, 27 coaches and 17 officials, including four doctors. Vietnamese athletes will participate in 11 disciplines: athletics, swimming, para weightlifting, para badminton, para table tennis, chess, para judo, boccia, para archery, wheelchair tennis and wheelchair fencing.

The ASEAN Para Games 2025 (Southeast Asian Sports Games for Persons with Disabilities) will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand from January 15 to 27, 2026. The opening ceremony will be held on January 20, and the official competitions will be held from January 20 to 25. The event will comprise a total of 19 disciplines, 536 events, of which four – athletics, swimming, para weightlifting and para cycling – will be held in accordance with the supervision standards of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The departure ceremony of the Vietnamese delegation will take place on December 16, 2025.
