KUCHING (Nov 4): Sarawak delivered a much-improved performance at the National Interstate Under-12 and Under-16 Badminton Championships at Stadium Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur from Oct 29 to Nov 2.

This year’s results mark a significant step forward compared to last year when Sarawak teams exited in the group stages. Leading the charge were the U14 Boys who clinched an impressive fourth place while both U16 Boys and U16 Girls secured fifth placings.

The Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) views the positive news as a reflection of the growing depth and competitiveness in junior badminton at the state level.

Although the U12 Girls finished 13th, SBA believes it was a valuable developmental experience. It has pledged to continue focus on this age group through targeted training and exposure programmes aimed at building a stronger foundation for future success.

SBA president Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar congratulated the entire contingent, noting that the encouraging results underscore Sarawak’s commitment to nurturing young badminton talent.

The sentiment was echoed by SHA secretary Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad who said the progress demonstrated that Sarawak badminton is moving in the right direction under its grass-roots and centralised training initiatives.

He also extended SBA’s appreciation to all coaches, officials, parents and sponsors for their support and dedication towards its commitment to developing the next generation of champions in line with the long-term vision to elevate Sarawak badminton to greater heights.
