Pramod Sukant, Nitish and Manisha emerge as Indonesia International Badminton Championship gold medalists
The Indian para-badminton team had a stellar performance at the International Badminton Championships in Indonesia as Pramod Bhagat and Sukant Kadam, along with four others, ended their reign by winning gold medals in various categories. Tokyo Paralympic champion Pramod teamed up with Sukant to defeat Indonesian players Duyuku and Setiawan 21-16 to win the SL3-SL4 men’s doubles gold medal. 21-12 Back-to-back matches “It feels incredible to win the gold medal with Sukant after such tough matches. Every medal reflects our hard work and pride in representing India,” Bhagat said after the win. Kadam added: “Our communication on the court has been strong throughout the week. This win gives us a huge boost for the season ahead.” The Indian team dominated the men’s singles SL3 and SL4 categories, with Nitish Kumar and Sivakumar clinching the title with stellar performances throughout the tournament. In the women’s singles SU5 event, Manisha Ramdas clinched the gold medal with a flawless performance, while in the SH6 event, Sumathi Sivan added another gold medal to the Indian team with a confident win. Pramod also added another bronze medal in mixed doubles, while Tokyo Olympics para champion Krishna Nagar won SH6 men’s singles bronze and SH6 mixed doubles silver. Krishna and his partner Sumati Sivan fought hard and eventually lost to the Indonesian pair of Subhan and Malina 13-21, 9-21.
