ITF TRNAVA – Brenda Fruhvirtová (18) is considered one of the biggest Czech hopes, but this year she was mainly troubled by problems off the court and did not play many tournaments. At the W75 event in Trnava, she lost in the very first round, when she was not enough 3:6, 2:6 against the local Radka Zelníčková (22). On the other hand, Lucie Havlíčková (20) is in excellent form, who swept the Canadian Katherine Sebovová (26) off the court clearly 6:1, 6:2. Barbora Palicová (21), who lost to German Tessa Brockmannová (20), and Julie Paštiková (17) said goodbye to the tournament after defeating Elena Ruseová (28).
Havlíčková – Sebovová 6:1, 6:2
When the end of the season, then with a full show. Havlíčková, after her successful representation in the Billie Jean King Cup and Sunday’s triumph at the ITF W50 tournament in Trnava, continues her sleepy ride in the same city. This time a category higher – W75, but it does not change the results of the young Czech woman.
In the first round, Katherine Sebová was convinced of this, as she played only three games against the Czech representative. The twenty-six-year-old Canadian, who is almost sixty places higher in the rankings, started the match promisingly when she won her serve with a clean game. However, that was also her only joy in the first set. Havlíčková literally overcame her opponent six games in a row and won the first set clearly 6:1 in 29 minutes.
The stunned native of Toronto at least partially recovered from the shock after losing nine games in a row when she went down to 1:3 in the second set. But she had little joy in it. Havlíčková, who played precisely, did not let her opponent breathe, by the end of the set she left her only one game and in one hour and ten minutes she celebrated a problem-free victory 6:1, 6:2.
Havlíčková is on the 313th place in the live ranking, her highest position is the 196th position from July 2023. In the round of 16, the Czech tennis player will meet the British Juriko Miyazaki.
Fruhvirtová – Zelníčková 3:6, 2:6
The 18-year-old Fruhvirtová started for the second time this month at a smaller ITF event in Trnava, but again lost immediately to her opening opponent. This time, she was not enough for the home 486th player in the world, Zelníčková, who she clearly lost in an hour of play.
Česká naděje did not enter the match well at all, losing the first three games. In the course of the first set, she did play and was able to break her opponent and reduce it to 3:4. However, the even end of the opening act belonged to the Slovak player again.
In the second set, České naděje was only able to keep pace at 2:3. From that moment on, she won only three points and had to say goodbye to the Slovak company. She thus recorded her third defeat in a row. She celebrated her last win at the beginning of October in Greece, where she then scratched compatriot and later champion Laura Samson in the second round.
The younger of the famous sisters continues to struggle with results, she is in the 809th position in the ranking and has a negative record of only six wins and nine defeats this year. This year, however, she was more troubled by psychological problems than her opponents and did not play for a large part of the year.
Let’s hope one of our best teenagers gets well soon and starts enjoying tennis and training again. Only then can he achieve his best performances again and move back into the elite hundred, where he definitely belongs.
Palicová – Brockmannová 6:1, 3:6, 6:7
Palicová’s opening set against Brockmann was excellent. Although the German managed her first service game with a clean game and leveled at 1:1, that was all from her side in the opening act. The Czech completely dominated the first set with five games in a row and won it smoothly 6:3 in 36 minutes of play.
Brockmann didn’t let the unsuccessful start of the match get her down. She entered the second set in a completely different mood and quickly took a 3-0 lead. The native of Neratovice still fought, she was able to reduce it to 3:4, but she had no more in the second set. The 20-year-old German won it 6:3 and sent the match to the deciding set.
At the beginning, it was completely balanced tennis, but in the end, Brockmann took the lead 5:3 and it seemed that she would lead the match to a winning end. However, the Czech Republic, a year older, managed to equalize and the match thus reached a tie-break. The German already clearly had the upper hand in it, she won it convincingly 7:1 and could celebrate advancing to the second round.
Seventeen-year-old Julie Paštiková also finished the tournament, tormenting Romanian Elena Ruse, ranked 101 in the world, before losing after a three-set battle 4:6, 7:6, 2:6.
