Galatasaray Sportif AŞ Deputy Chairman Abdullah Kavukcu stated that the referees appointed to VAR in the competitions should be more careful.
Kavukcu made a statement to the press at RAMS Park after the match in which the yellow-red team beat Gençlerbirliği 3-2 in the 13th week of the Trendyol Super League.
Stating that they do not want to escalate the situation, Kavukcu said, “We always speak to protect our rights. Our fans should be sure of this. Turkish Football Federation President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu said, ‘Referees can make mistakes, but VAR cannot’. For this, I have infinite confidence in President İbrahim. Necessary investigations should be made on this issue. The child’s leg could have been broken in Sallai’s position. After that position, the same referee had previously made a different decision for the same position in a different stadium. Necessary steps must be taken regarding this issue. We, the environment, “We don’t want to escalate. VAR also needs to look at things differently. The atmosphere gets tense during the match.” he said.
Referring to the incident between him and the Sports Branch police during the match, Kavukcu said, “There was no tension there. We do not experience tension with the Sports Branch or the police. There may be tense conversations during the match. We are also citizens affiliated with them. There is no problem.” he said.
Stating that they also compete in the UEFA Champions League, Kavukcu said, “The referees come here in the Champions League as well. We did not talk at the end of those matches. We did not discuss them for a day. I trust the Turkish referees. I do not want to talk about them in this environment. The referees appointed to VAR need to be more careful, and the right referees must be selected for the Fenerbahçe match. We are making efforts. President İbrahim said, ‘Referees can make mistakes, but VAR referees cannot make mistakes.’ I want to draw attention to the sentence ” made his assessment.
