Wissam Ben Yedder’s Legal Storm: French Star Faces Trial for Serious Allegations

The legal troubles for French international striker Wissam Ben Yedder are far from over. The 35-year-old forward, currently playing for Sakaryaspor in the Turkish second division, has been formally indicted and will soon face trial in the Alpes-Maritimes departmental criminal court. This development stems from serious accusations of rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault, as reported by le Parisien, citing the public Prosecutor of Nice, Damien martinelli.

Ben Yedder, who has earned 19 caps for the French national team, and his younger brother, Sabri, are accused by two women. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred in a rental apartment near Monaco during July 2023, a period when Ben Yedder was still captain of the principality’s club. He was initially released on a bail of 900,000 euros following his arrest.

Despite being confronted with the complainants in May 2024, Ben Yedder has consistently denied all allegations. Both brothers remain under judicial supervision, with the hearing date yet to be officially set. This ongoing legal saga casts a significant shadow over the career of a player who has previously showcased his talent on some of Europe’s biggest stages.

A Pattern of Legal Convictions

This indictment is not the first legal setback for the striker. In November 2024, Ben Yedder received a two-year suspended prison sentence for sexual assault while intoxicated and resisting authority. This conviction led to his inclusion in the national registry of perpetrators of sexual or violent offenses, a serious mark on his record.

Adding to his legal woes, Ben Yedder was also convicted in September 2025 for “psychological violence” against his former partner. The Nice criminal court ordered him to pay a fine of 90,000 euros and mandated his participation in a prevention course. These multiple convictions highlight a concerning pattern of behavior that extends beyond the pitch.
