The Behobia -San Sebastián 2025 was once again a success in participation and involvement, both for the participating athletes and for the hundreds of people who came to the circuit to encourage their loved ones and the brave people willing to travel the 20 kilometers of the event. The Leonese Raúl Celada and the Ecuadorian Kathy Tisalema won. But the important ones were all, the 26,128 runners who arrived at the Bouleverd after starting the route from Behobia.

The percentage of participants who crossed the finish line among those who left Behobia is incredible: 99.3%. 26,299 athletes began the test, of the 27,981 who had registered and had a bib number. And those 26,299 came out in the arrival chamber. In addition, there were 8,943 women participants, 34% of the total, a new historical record.

There were 171 participants who did not achieve the goal because they withdrew and another 918 who, despite having a race number, wearing their corresponding chip and reaching the Boulevard finish line, did not appear in the final classification of the Behobia – San Sebastián 2025. The reason is that they were disqualified by the race organization. As DV was able to confirm, the reason for the disqualification was the same in all cases: they left before the time they had established.

This is not an unusual situation, far from it, since it happens every year. Last year there were 958 runners who were left out of the records. Each athlete is assigned a starting time based on the times they have achieved in previous editions and that they know perfectly, aware that skipping it will result in disqualification. But every year there are those who anticipate their departure because the wait is long, because their usual group of companions leaves earlier or because they do not want to have to overcome too many runners to reach their goals.

The Behobia – San Sebastián regulations make it clear and each runner also knows what to do because their starting time appears on their own number. Furthermore, in the digital magazine sent to each athlete’s email, it is clearly stated that advancing the start time entails the punishment of disqualification. «There are 19 groups of runners starting and the starting time information for each group is defined on the race number. Leaving at a time earlier than that which appears on the race number will be grounds for disqualification,” the organizers establish in their regulations. “The chip readers will take note of the pace of athletes who leave before their time,” he recalls. In this way, each runner will know their exact time at the moment they pass the Bouleverd finish line. “On the contrary, there is no penalty for leaving at a later time than the corresponding one (for example, to share the race with friends registered with a different bib color),” he recalls.
