Last Saturday, November 15, 2025, seven members of the Albatros Badminton Sports Club traveled to Moral de Calatrava (Ciudad Real) to compete in the Castilla-La Mancha Badminton Club League, accompanied by coach Jesús de la Mata. In the same pavilion, a test of the National Parabadminton and Inclusive Circuit also took place, in which two athletes from the Cuenca club participated.
The Club League stands out for its team competition format, in which five modalities are played: Mixed Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles and Men’s Singles. Each player can only participate in a maximum of two modalities, and the club that wins the most games of the five wins the match. In this edition, the Albatros was not able to present teams in the U13 categories or in the Absolute category, although it did do so with two teams in the U17 category.
In the U17 category, the Albatros main team, formed by Jimena Alonso, Kristina Stanislavova, Samuel Rodríguez, Marcos Romero and Mateo Higueras, demonstrated their national level and were proclaimed U17 REGIONAL CHAMPION, after beating Badminton Drop Toledo in the final. With this victory, they revalidate the title achieved in the three previous seasons, adding four consecutive championships.
The second U17 team, made up of Daniela Rodríguez, Raquel Lozano, Jaime Perona and Pablo Cirujano (on loan from Drop Toledo), all still in the U15 category, bordered on surprises and came to compete for third place, finishing in fourth position, a very creditable result.
In the National Parabadminton and Inclusive Circuit, the club competed with two of its members in the inclusive doubles modality. Jesús de la Mata, together with Álvaro Martínez (Bádminton Provenfray), reached the quarterfinals. For her part, Jimena Alonso, partnering with Maya Alcaide (Bádminton Drop Toledo), reached the final and was proclaimed SUBCAMPION in Inclusive Doubles, demonstrating the high level of the Cuenca club in this modality.
From the Albatros Badminton Sports Club, we appreciate the support of all the entities that support the only badminton club in the province of Cuenca: Globalcaja Cuenca Foundation, Cuenca City Council, Cuenca Provincial Council, Sports Service of the Castilla-La Mancha Communities Board in Cuenca and the Castilla-La Mancha Badminton Federation.
