The announcement, made with all the fanfare befitting a Monday Night Football matchup between the Cowboys and the arizona Cardinals, saw NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman beaming alongside Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and members of the Dallas Stars organization.It’s a partnership that’s been a long time coming, with Jones himself having championed the idea of an outdoor hockey game at his palatial stadium since it opened its doors in 2009.

It is indeed with great pleasure that we finally partner with the Cowboys and Stars – two franchises dedicated to North Texas fans – to create a unique experience in a hockey market that is enjoying great momentum and hosted the 2020 Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl.
This isn’t the first time Texas has embraced the magic of outdoor hockey.Just five years ago, the dallas Stars captivated a staggering 85,630 fans at the Cotton Bowl for the 2020 Winter Classic. That attendance figure was,at the time,the third-largest crowd ever for an NHL game,a testament to the burgeoning hockey fanbase in the region. Onyl two other NHL contests have ever drawn more than 90,000 spectators: the record-setting 2014 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium (105,491) and a 2019 Stadium Series game in Ohio (94,751).
Jerry Jones, ever the visionary, sees this as another chance to showcase the versatility of his famed “Jerry’s World.”
