Nagelsmann: No serious changes against Northern Ireland
The DFB team will face Northern Ireland, who have been undefeated for two years at Windsor Park in Belfast. National coach Nagelsmann is relying on continuity – but one position is open.
Julian Nagelsmann is not planning any major personnel changes for the World Cup qualifier in Northern Ireland compared to the recent 4-0 win against Luxembourg. “I haven’t decided on a position yet. It could also stay the same team,” said the national coach before the national soccer team’s game on Monday (8:45 p.m./RTL) in Windsor Park in Belfast.
The DFB team competes as leaders of Group A in Northern Ireland. Like Slovakia, the hosts also have six points and have not lost their last seven home games.
Windsor Park a “fortress”
“Everyone knows what’s coming. It’s an issue that the Northern Irish have been unbeaten here for two years,” said Nagelsmann. “That’s an impressive rate, that’s their fortress.”
In the first leg in Cologne in September, the DFB team struggled for a long time to win 3-1. At the time, Nagelsmann described the Northern Irish style of play as unattractive, with lots of long balls. He caused anger among his opponents. “I didn’t want to be disrespectful,” said Nagelsmann in Belfast. Coach Michael O’Neill’s team is a tough competitor.
