Rovigo Secures Strong Second Place in Italian Baseball Cup Final Four
Godo, Italy – The Itas Mutua Baseball Softball Club rovigo wrapped up their Serie A Italian Cup campaign wiht a commendable second-place finish after a hard-fought Final Four tournament held saturday in Godo. The team from the Polesano region ultimately fell to Buttrio in the championship game, capping a season-long rivalry that extended from regular-season standings to the cup final.
The Final Four also featured Lupi Auto Fiorentina and new Rimini, who qualified based on their performance in the top-flight poule salvation. Rovigo kicked off their semifinal matchup against Fiorentina with a decisive 9-3 victory. The team established an early lead, scoring six runs in the first two innings. Pitcher Salvatore was instrumental, keeping the fiorentina offense in check until the fifth inning and stifling any comeback attempts. Rovigo extended their lead to a comfortable margin by the eighth inning, securing their spot in the final. Relief pitcher enrico Crepaldi and veteran catcher Nick Nosti, playing in what are reportedly their final career games, delivered strong performances.
The championship game against Buttrio proved to be a nail-biter. Buttrio, who had defeated New Rimini 4-3 in their semifinal, took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Rovigo responded swiftly, matching Buttrio’s two runs in the second inning. The game remained tight through the sixth inning, with Rovigo’s defence, anchored by pitcher Frigato, who contributed two hits including a double, holding strong.However, Buttrio managed to score two crucial runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Despite their efforts, itas Mutua couldn’t answer back, and the game concluded with a 6-3 score, awarding the Italian Cup to Buttrio.
While the sting of falling just short of a national title is understandable, the Rovigo club is celebrating another triumphant season at the top level of Italian baseball.
