Rik De Mil is a sought-after coach, that much is clear. Last summer there was interest from Antwerp and this week it became clear that Union saw him as the dream successor to Sébastien Pocognoli.
KAA Gent is also said to have him on the radar this week, and Genk was also mentioned earlier this week as a possible new club for Rik De Mil.
KRC Genk reacts as if stung by a wasp
He should become Thorsten Fink’s successor at the Limburgers. But there is nothing wrong with that, Genk has now announced in a fiery statement.
“In response to the article “Why top clubs are so crazy about Rik De Mil” (Het Nieuwsblad, October 10, 2025 – taken over by Het Belang van Limburg), KRC Genk would like to emphasize that the statement that KRC Genk inquired about Rik De Mil is incorrect.”
KRC Genk is not interested in Rik De Mil
“KRC Genk would like to respond that the club has not had any contact with Rik De Mil or his entourage. There is no question of a search for a new coach,” an official press release said.
KRC Genk is currently seventh in the competition with 14 out of 30. It wanted to use the international break to do extra work and speak to the core and staff.
