Meurthe-et-Moselle, France – The football world is onc again grappling with a serious off-field allegation as former AS Nancy-Lorraine goalkeeper Baptiste Valette is slated to appear in court this December to face charges of rape. The incident, which allegedly occurred in 2019, involves an 18-year-old woman following a night out at a downtown nightclub.

valette, who has also played for clubs like Nîmes, Cholet, and Sochaux, and currently features for Grasse in National 2, is accused of sexual assault. The trial is scheduled to take place from December 1st to 3rd at the departmental criminal court of Meurthe-et-Moselle, as first reported by L’Est Républicain. Valette faces a potential 20-year prison sentence if convicted of “rape by a person in a manifest state of drunkenness.”

Despite these proceedings, he was able to continue his professional career, notably with AS Nancy-Lorraine until 2022. He then moved to Cholet, followed by FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, before joining grasse this past summer. The case was referred to the Criminal Court by the Nancy Court of Appeal in 2023, setting the stage for the upcoming trial.

As Valette prepares to defend himself in court, the focus shifts from the pitch to the courtroom, where justice will be sought for the alleged victim.

The upcoming trial will undoubtedly draw attention, not only from football fans but also from those concerned with issues of consent and accountability within the sports world. The outcome will be closely watched as it unfolds.
