Adil Ramzi has been appointed as assistant coach for the Netherlands national football team, joining head coach Xavi Hernández’s newly finalized technical staff. The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) announced the appointment, which sees the former Morocco international step up to the senior men’s setup following recent roles within the Dutch youth structure.
A New Chapter in the Oranje Staff Under Xavi
The KNVB confirmed the full composition of the coaching team supporting Xavi Hernández, who took over the Oranje helm on a contract running through 2030. Alongside Ramzi, the federation named Sergio Alegre, Óscar Hernández, and former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as assistant coaches. Patrick Lodewijks returns as goalkeeper coach, while Iván Torres joins as performance trainer, according to the federation’s official announcements.
Xavi emphasized the importance of a diverse and collaborative staff when shaping his bench. “I find it important to surround myself with people of different qualities, backgrounds, and perspectives who complement each other,” Xavi said, as reported by regional coverage. “At the same time, I attach great importance to the Dutch contribution, which we have with Patrick, Ruud, and Adil. Everyone has their own role and expertise.”
Deep Roots in Dutch Football and Prior Experience
Ramzi’s promotion follows a steady ascent through the Dutch coaching ranks. In 2024, he took charge of the Netherlands U18 national team before moving up to manage the U19 side a year later. Before entering the national youth setup, the Marrakech native built a substantial coaching resumé at PSV Eindhoven. He served as assistant coach for the club’s reserve side, Jong PSV, in 2019, before stepping into the head coach role for the reserves in 2022. He also completed two stints as assistant coach for PSV’s first team between 2017 and 2019.
Notably, Ramzi’s path crosses again with Ruud van Nistelrooy. The two previously worked together during the 2021-2022 season, when Ramzi served as van Nistelrooy’s assistant during his tenure leading PSV. Outside of the Netherlands, Ramzi’s senior management experience includes a spell in charge of Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca in 2023.
Playing Career and International Background
As a player, Ramzi spent significant time in the Eredivisie, representing several prominent Dutch clubs including PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar, and FC Twente. On the international stage, he earned 37 caps playing for the Morocco national team, establishing himself as a well-known figure in both Dutch and North African football circles before transitioning smoothly into technical staff roles.

With the technical staff now fully assembled under Xavi, the Oranje turn their focus toward upcoming international windows and preparations for competitive fixtures under the new management team.
