The Legion once again provided a wonderful turnout in the match against Panathinaikos on Thursday evening. In a beautiful atmosphere with a great banner, loud singing and lots of fireworks. UEFA is just not a fan of the latter, as we now know. The football association has previously imposed a hefty suspended sentence on Feyenoord and this could easily become reality.
At the beginning of this year, UEFA imposed a fine of 68,000 euros on Feyenoord following the 3-0 victory in the Champions League match against Bayern Munich. The club and its supporters were punished for lighting fireworks and occupying the stairs.
In addition, Feyenoord was given a suspended sentence: if another incident involving fireworks occurs during a European match in De Kuip within two years, the Gerard Meijer stand must remain empty for the next home match.
Due to the fireworks that were set off en masse in the stadium on Thursday, it is not inconceivable that UEFA will invoke that suspended sentence. However, we are still waiting for the final report from the observer present.
If the European Football Association indeed decides to impose the annoying sanction, Feyenoord will have to do without the fanatical North Side in one of the upcoming home matches in the Europa League. In which match this will be the case depends on the speed at which UEFA’s investigation is completed. On Tuesday, November 27, Feyenoord will play at home against Celtic, after which the last home game in the League phase against Sturm Graz is scheduled for Tuesday, January 22.
