Bayern wins its way to a European record – BVB beats Cologne late
FC Bayern is still unstoppable. But Munich are having trouble at the bottom of the table in Gladbach. The situation was different for pursuers Leipzig in their resounding victory in Augsburg. BVB celebrates late.
FC Bayern continued its impeccable winning streak and celebrated a European record. The Munich team beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-0 (0-0) and consolidated their lead in the Bundesliga with their eighth win. Bayern even managed 13 wins in 13 games across all competitions – only AC Milan had managed such a start to the season in the major European leagues in the autumn of 1992.
RB Leipzig, who celebrated a splendid 6-0 win in Augsburg, are in second place in the table. Borussia Dortmund made things much more exciting when they won 1-0 thanks to a goal in stoppage time against 1. FC Köln. Eintracht Frankfurt celebrated a home win against St. Pauli (2:0) as did TSG Hoffenheim against 1. FC Heidenheim (3:1). The struggling VfL Wolfsburg was able to take a deep breath as it fought its way to a 1-0 away win at Hamburger SV.
Bavaria struggles with the majority for a surprisingly long time
From the 19th minute onwards, Bayern played in the majority because Jens Castrop was shown red after a serious foul against Luis Díaz. But then the guests found it surprisingly difficult against ten Gladbachers. DFB captain Joshua Kimmich broke the spell (64th), shortly afterwards Raphael Guerreiro increased it to 2-0 (70th). When, to make matters worse for Borussia, Kevin Stöger also hit the post with a penalty (75′), the match was practically decided.
Munich’s youngster Lennart Karl provided the highlight of the afternoon – as he did recently in the Champions League against Bruges. After being substituted, he hit the corner beautifully with a long-range shot (81′).
Augsburg and Wagner suffer historic home bankruptcy
In Augsburg, the Leipzig team left no doubt about their clear success early on. After goals from Yan Diomande (10th), Romulo (18th), Antonio Nusa (22nd) and Christoph Baumgartner (38th), the game was over. The strange thing about it: the home team actually made the game – but at the same time they also made serious mistakes. RB just had to wait for mistakes and strike on counterattacks. Assan Ouedraogo (56th) and Castello Lukeba (65th) increased.
While Leipzig consolidated its second place in the table, FCA slipped to 15th place after the worst Bundesliga home defeat. Should Mainz win in Stuttgart on Sunday (5.30 p.m.), then coach Sandro Wagner’s Swabians will find themselves in the relegation relegation zone.
Dortmund just avoided a small setback: DFB professional Maximilian Beier saved the victory with his goal in the sixth minute of added time. In the end, the game was overshadowed by an injury to FC professional Timo Hübers: TV pictures showed the defender severely injuring his right knee in a duel. He had to be taken off the field on a stretcher by paramedics.
Frankfurt reaction after Liverpool setback
The Frankfurt team had a frustrating experience this week when they lost 5-1 in the premier class against Liverpool. But the Hessians shook themselves and were able to celebrate against St. Pauli. Jonathan Burkardt scored a brace (36th/56th), with both goals benefiting from defensive mistakes by Hamburg.
Meanwhile, Hoffenheim got their first home win of the season: Fisnik Asllani (18th), Tim Lemperle (45th + 2) and Andrej Kramaric (63rd) scored the goals against Kellerkind Heidenheim. Stefan Schimmer’s connecting goal wasn’t enough to catch up (75′).
Hamburg defeat despite superiority
HSV was actually superior to Wolfsburg, who had been in crisis for weeks. And yet the guests celebrated at the end. Adam Daghim took advantage of the home team’s defensive uncertainty (15th). Goalkeeper Kamil Grabara held on to the victory, including with a penalty from Ransford Königsdorffer (45th + 1).
