City Restrictions: Traffic, Parking & Agent Deployments

LISTENING It’s derby day. The first of two highly anticipated and armored matches between Ascoli and Sambenedettese, a challenge that returns to ignite Piceno football after 39 years. An event full of history, rivalry and passion, but which this time will be played without the presence of visiting fans and under an imposing security device. The atmosphere around the match is in fact one of maximum attention.

The 300 agents

Over 300 officers will be deployed to ensure public order and safety: a massive contingent that will involve law enforcement personnel also coming from outside the region. Police, carabinieri and financial police will support the operators already in service in the area. The agents of the Senigallia Mobile Department were also present, ready to guard the Del Duca stadium and the surrounding areas. For weeks the police headquarters in collaboration with the police and law enforcement forces present in the area have been carrying out an extensive control and security service to try to prevent potentially dangerous situations.

Proof of this is the raid carried out in recent days which led to the report of a thirty-eight year old from Ascoli who was found in possession of drugs, baseball bats and firecrackers ahead of the derby. The commissioner, Aldo Fusco, also ordered a five-year Daspo for him. The safety plan developed by the commissioner provides for extremely detailed and structured management of the entire day.

The objective is to prevent possible tensions and protect citizens and fans during all phases of the event: from the influx into the stadium, to the progress of the match, up to the outflow of the public. Despite the absence of the rossoblù fans in the stands, the organization remains complex. The Prefecture and the Arengo have agreed on a series of changes to the city’s roads which will mainly involve the area around the sports facility. In via Luigi Marini, traffic will be prohibited to vehicles starting from 10 am and a temporary one-way direction north-south will be established.

The road system

Here the parking ban will also come into force with forced removal to avoid obstructions to pedestrian flows and safety vehicles. Similar measures will affect the entire Roberto Strulli square, in the parking area of the Conad shopping centre, and the areas surrounding the Casa della Gioventù, the current headquarters of the registry service offices. All strategic areas that will be monitored by the police to avoid unauthorized gatherings. The availability of the Restart parking area, in via Monini, has been confirmed, intended to accommodate fan vehicles in the three hours before the kick-off and in the two hours following the end of the match.

The road system will also undergo changes in via Piemonte: it will be passable exclusively in a west-east direction in the stretch that leads to viale Rozzi, to encourage the controlled flow of the public. It is recommended to go to the stadium first to avoid crowds at the turnstiles. The derby returns, therefore, full of emotion and tension. An event that the Piceno area has been waiting for for decades and which the city wants to experience with pride, but also with maximum respect for the rules and safety.
