Club Brugge normally has to go to Kazakhstan in January for the Champions League match against Kairat Almaty, but that long journey of more than 6,500 kilometers could be canceled. That’s what Het Laatste Nieuws writes.
Conditions in Almaty are far from ideal: the stadium is in poor condition and temperatures down to -10 degrees are expected during winter. Moreover, there would have been chaos around the stadium during previous Kairat home matches. The club management is therefore considering submitting an application to UEFA to have the match played at another location.
According to The Latest News that decision will only be made after the match against Inter at the beginning of November. If UEFA gives the green light, Club Brugge could potentially save a lot of logistical headaches and a long journey. For the time being, however, Blauw-Zwart is taking into account that the match will take place in Almaty.
