Big concerns are swirling around Lamine Yamal, barcelona’s young phenom. The Spanish sensation is sidelined again with groin issues, just weeks after a previous four-week layoff. This latest setback is expected too keep him out for “two to three weeks,” a significant blow for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
The absence of the exceptional talent weighs heavily on Barcelona, but the situation has also ignited a public spat between Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, and Spanish national team manager Luis de la Fuente. Flick publicly accused de la Fuente of overusing Yamal, stating, this is not a consideration of the players.
De la Fuente, however, didn’t take the criticism lying down. Responding to Flick’s remarks, the 64-year-old expressed his surprise, saying,I was just amazed at these statements because he was a national coach and I thought he had this empathy.
He added that Flick, as a former national coach himself, should understand player management and behavior, making his criticism unexpected.
Yamal is slated to miss crucial World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria. Though, the potential absence from the highly anticipated Clasico on October 26 against Real Madrid would be an even more devastating blow. It remains to be seen if he can recover in time for that monumental clash.
Without Yamal, Barcelona has already suffered a significant defeat, losing 4-1 to Sevilla in league play on Sunday. This followed a Champions League loss to PSG (2-1), marking a tough period for the Catalan giants.
