W15 Neuquén II: Four seeds reach semifinals

The top four seeds at the W15 Neuquén II confirmed their semifinal spots on Thursday, advancing at the Asociación Española venue in Neuquén, Argentina. The quartet, featuring two Argentine and two Chilean players, won their quarterfinal matches to set up the final four.

Argentina’s Victoria Bosio, the tournament’s top seed and a 2025 champion at this event, secured her place in the semifinals with a commanding 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ecuador’s Camila Romero. The 32-year-old from Santa Fe, ranked 315th in the WTA, will face Chile’s Antonia Vergara Rivera. The 19-year-old third seed defeated Argentine Josefina Estevez 7-5, 6-4 to earn her spot. Estevez had recently won a W15 title at Rincón Club de Campo.

In the other half of the draw, an all-Argentine quarterfinal showcased the depth of the nation’s talent. Justina González Daniele, the second seed, triumphed over Luciana Moyano 6-4, 6-2. Both players were named to Argentina’s squad for the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup playoff against Japan in Tokyo on November 21-22. González Daniele will now meet Chile’s fourth seed, Fernanda Labrana, who dispatched Berta Bonardi 6-2, 6-2.

Argentina’s Young Squad Aims for Billie Jean King Cup Promotion

The W15 Neuquén II serves as a key preparatory event for three of the four players selected for Argentina’s Billie Jean King Cup campaign. The team, captained by Paola Suárez with Mariano Hood as vice-captain, is on a mission to secure promotion to the World Group I. Justina González Daniele, Luciana Moyano, and Sol Larraya Guidi are all competing in Neuquén before their departure for Japan.

Argentina earned the playoff spot after a successful campaign in the Americas Zone I in Ibagué, Colombia, where the team defeated Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil. The upcoming series in Tokyo will be decided in a best-of-five match format.

“To Japan, we have put together a new team, and I will have the opportunity to get to know new players better and get closer, especially to have good adaptation to the surface in the days before, which I think is going to be quite fast and the rivals like it,” Suárez explained, highlighting the importance of this series for evaluating new talent.

Player Profiles and Tournament Context

The W15 Neuquén II is a $15,000 prize money tournament on the ITF World Tennis Tour, organized by the Neuquén Tennis Federation with the backing of the Argentine Tennis Association. The event provides a professional platform for emerging players to gain valuable ranking points and match experience.

Justina González Daniele, 20, is the highest-ranked Argentine in the Billie Jean King Cup squad at No. 421. She won her first professional title, a W35 event in Boca Ratón, Florida, this past May. Her teammate, Luciana Moyano, 21, claimed two W15 singles titles: the W15 of Eldorado in 2022 and the W15 of Santiago in March of this year. The youngest, 18-year-old Sol Larraya Guidi, is ranked 1,209th and recently earned two gold medals at the South American Youth Games in Panama.

Despite their youth, all four players will be making their debut in the Billie Jean King Cup, a milestone Suárez emphasized. “The four players will make their debut in the Billie Jean King Cup, a series that can mark an important step in their careers and in the Argentine objective of returning to World Group I,” Suárez said.

Semifinal Matchups and Tournament Schedule

The semifinal matchups are set. Victoria Bosio will face Antonia Vergara Rivera, while Justina González Daniele takes on Fernanda Labrana.

González Daniele, Moyano, and Larraya Guidi all won their first-round matches in Neuquén without dropping a set. Moyano defeated local player Isabel Arabarco 6-1, 6-3, and Larraya Guidi overcame Melina María Maruca 6-2, 6-0.

The W15 Neuquén II singles final is scheduled for Sunday, November 8, at 11 a.m. local time at the Asociación Española. The tournament runs from November 3 to 8, offering a week of intense competition for players aiming to climb the rankings and prepare for future challenges.
