Strange scene in Cardiff! In the World Cup qualifier between Wales and Belgium (final score 2:4), people were suddenly not only chasing the ball, but also a rat.
In the 67th minute, the animal sprinted across the pitch – to the surprise of players, referee Daniel Siebert and the fans in the stadium. The game had to be interrupted briefly. Belgium keeper Thibaut Courtois reacted quickly, tightened his gloves and tried to grab the uninvited guest. But the nimble rat got away from him. It was Wales striker Brennan Johnson (24) who finally successfully chased the animal off the field – to loud applause from the spectators.
The “Pied Piper of Cardiff” caused probably the strangest scene of the qualification so far.

In terms of sport, things still went well for the “Red Devils”: After the Welsh team (Rodon, 8th) had taken an early lead, Kevin De Bruyne (18th, 76th/each with a hand penalty) and Thomas Meunier (24th) turned the game around. Despite Broadhead’s late goal (89′), Trossard (90′) made the final score 4-2. This means Belgium is back at the top of Group J.
