US Open 2023: Czech Wins & Kovačik Sisters’ Triumph

Czech tennis players Alena and Jan Kovačkovy won the junior doubles at the US Open. In today’s finals, Jeline Vandromme, Laima Vladson 6: 2, 6: 2 defeated the Belgian-Lithuanian pair on New York concrete. The deployed threes succeeded in less than an hour.

Sisters Kovačkovy became the first purely Czech winners of the competition since 2013. At that time, the tournament was dominated by Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková. Three years ago, Lucie Havlíčková, who played with Russian Diana Šnajderová, also won the junior doubles in Flushing Meadows.

For Alena Kovačková it was the second Grand Slam title from the junior doubles. In 2023 she succeeded in Wimbledon with Laura Samson. Her two -year -old sister Jana won the Junior Grand Slam for the first time. TK Sparta Praha players made up for disappointment from Junior Roland Garros, where they lost in the final with the German pair Eva Benneannová, Sonja Zhenikhovová.

Czech tennis players won the first set against the four Vandromme and Vladson four thanks to two breaks from 1: 1 to 5: 1. Also in the second set, Kovačkov’s sisters kept a 100 % service game, and after two more breaks, they led to victory. The tournament passed without losing the set.

The title in singles at the US Open was defended by Belarus Aryna Sabalenková. The world leader defeated Amanda Anisimov 6: 3, 7: 6 in the final of New York. A 27 -year -old native of Minsk won the fourth Grand Slam title and only this season.

Sabalenko won in an hour and 34 minutes. She became the first tennis player since 2014 to defend the title on the concrete courts in Flushing Meadows. Last time, Serena Williams did it. Sabalenko defeated Anisimovová for the fourth of the ten matches for the fourth time and returned this year’s elimination in the Wimbledon semifinals.

Three years younger Anisimov did not win the Grand Slam title even at the second final participation. In July she lost in a decisive match in Wimbledon with Polka Iga Šwiatek 0: 6, 0: 6.
