Since 2006 these local initiatives have become a completely free national event for participants: Matti for Football is a national review of sporting and social promotion that intervenes on the ground of cultural models.
Matti for football is a cultural challenge before sporty, which represents a simple way to put together problem and care: sport, the game of football in particular, as individual and group therapy to overcome more or less acute forms of mental disorder but also to bring closer to sociality, respect for the rules and the assumption of responsibility, building opportunities for social inclusion.
Matti for Uisp football is inserted in the European Sports Week/European Week of Sport (Ewos) 2025which will be held from 23 to 30 September 2025, within the tenth edition of the #beactive campaign of the European Commission, promoted in Italy by Minister for Sport and young peopletogether with Department for Sport and Sport and Health.
“Matti for football interprets the social value of sport in a concrete and direct way, in the sign of Franco Basaglia and the psychiatrists who have built this formula – he says Tiziano Pesce, national president of UISP – that is: to overcome the crystallized roles of hospital life and relate people with mental discomfort, medical staff, operators and family members. In this way, sport creates spaces of inclusion and contributes to overcoming mental discomfort and prejudices, promoting health and psychophysical well -being “.
“The teams are mixed: men and women, boys of 18 years of age alongside sixty -year -olds, take the field. Matti for football play the doctor, the patient and the operator and it is nice that it is just like that: the discomfort and prejudice are all overcome together”, he says Alessandro Baldi, national football coordinator Uisp.
“We are extremely happy to start this collaboration with Sambenedettese – he declares Daniel Claudio Ficcadentipresident of the Uisp Committee of Ascoli Piceno – a company that shares our values and our passion for sport and social. We are convinced that this partnership will enrich our territory and offer new opportunities to the community. I sincerely thank President Vittorio Massi for his availability and commitment in this project “.
Simone ricciattipresident Uisp Marche: “Matti for football has been one of the most beautiful and significant experiences of our movement for years. It is an event that puts in the field The idea of sport as a right, an opportunity to meet and the possibility of breaking down prejudices and barriers. Seeing together users of the mental health departments, operators, family members and volunteers reminds us that sport can really be a tool of health, inclusion and active citizenship. Bringing this review to the Marche is a source of pride and responsibility for us: we want it to become an opportunity for growth for the whole territory “.
