Spissu on Doncic: First Half Struggles & Luka’s Dominance

Interviewed by Andrea Sini on La Nuova, Marco Spissu speaks to the cold mind of what happened at Eurobasket 2025.

These are some of his statements.

«We were a big group, we gave our best and we believed it. We thought we could play a medal position, but evidently we missed something », so the Playmaker of Saragozza begins.

Regarding the monstrous performance of Doncic (42 points against the Azzurri, of which 30 in the first half alone): «Yes, it is an monster, a phenomenon, an incredible player. But in the first two quarters we looked at him play, we admired him instead of playing against him. At the end of the second quarter we understood it and in fact we adjusted many things. But at that point his companions also scored difficult shots and we ourselves combined some mess. I think of that counterattack three against one ended with a breakthrough. He broke our legs, we couldn’t afford it ».

On how the locker room took the farewell of Gianmarco Pozzecco: “We already knew it, he had communicated it in advance. Sorry because something special had been created at the group level, with great desire to compete, feel good and above all to come and play with the national team. I hope this spirit continues to be there in future years ».
