Matias Soule claims that he and teammate Paulo Dybala ‘did a lot of work’ together during the international break, but admits that he still doesn’t know whether Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini will be able to play the pair together in the same team.
For reference, Dybala’s longest run of consecutive Serie A starts last season came between matchday 14 and matchday 21. Soule came off the bench three times and earned just 28 minutes of action during that period.
Soule’s longest run of consecutive starts in Serie A last season came between matchday 25 and matchday 38. In that time, Dybala only featured on three occasions, and started just once alongside Soule during that period.

Speaking at an event held by Adidas in Rome on Friday, Soule responded to questions regarding his ability to play alongside Dybala in the same starting XI.
He said: “I don’t know. Obviously we did a lot of work during the break this week. We trained together, but I don’t know how many minutes (Gasperini) will give us from the start.
“But yes, we have to start as we finished in the last two games. It’s essential to continue like this.”

Soule was also asked about his objective of being included in the Argentina national team squad for the 2026 World Cup at the end of the season.
“Of course, that’s always a dream,” he replied. “By keeping continuity here, it’s easier to make it to the national team, so I hope I do well with Roma, then it will come by itself. That’s the way and that is what I have to do.”
