Pilar & Giuliana: Badminton Stars’ Historic Medal Wins

Lima, September 9, 2025– The for Peruvian bádminton lived a historic month with the outstanding participation of Pilar Jáuregui and Giuliana Poveda in Peru For Badminton International 2025, tournament held in Lima between August 12 and 17. Both athletes, recognized as referents of the adapted sport in the country and ambassadors of Gatorade®, shone in front of the local public and reaffirmed their position among the best in the world.

Pilar Jáuregui, world champion and perseverance symbol, consecrated himself with three gold medals in the singles categories (WS – WH2), female doubles (WD – WH1 – WH2) and mixed doubles (xD – WH1 – WH2). His performance in this tournament not only evidenced his indisputable technical domain, but also his competitive spirit and his ability to excite with each point.

Giuliana Poveda, on the other hand, was crowned champion in the Singles category (WS – SH6), thus consolidating its sustained growth as one of the great figures of Badminton International. His performance was held by the audience and by the entire sports community, which recognizes a global projection athlete.

Champions at home, referents in the world

These achievements arrive after their outstanding participation in the British & Irish for Badminton International 2025, made in Cardiff, Wales, between July 22 and 26. In that tournament, Pilar Jáuregui won the gold medal in Singles after a final at odd before the Switzerland Icharia Olgiati (11-21, 21-18, 23-21), in addition to the bronze in doubles, confirming its versatility and leadership in the circuit. Giuliana Poveda reached the silver medal in her individual category, after facing India Nithya Sumathy in an intense ending.

Both athletes are part of the 2025–2028 Olympic Cycle program of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) and hold the sports laurels, in addition to having reached Paralympic diplomas in the Paris 2024 Games. Today they continue their preparation with their eyes on two key quotes: the Lima 2027 parapanames games and the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
