Culture and sport. A winning combination. In the evocative scenario of the National Gallery
of Umbria, between a fresco by Bonfigli and the Pydus of Piero della Francesca, the history of
The capital meets that of Perugia Basket Swila, an iconic reality of regional basketball, who has chosen Palazzo dei Priori not only to present the 2025/26 sports season, but also a new, pioneering, project. And so a Thursday in September, the 11, turns into a journey in which the scarce ball bounces (only metaphorically, however) among the works of Duccio di Buoninsegna rather than by Alberto Burri and Gerardo Doctors.
To do the honors of the house and present the project, also born with the collaboration of the Palermo family representing the Swill, the main sponsor of the company, the director of the National Museums of Perugia, Constantine D’Orazio. “It is a historical agreement – he begins – and we are happy to be pioneers in this initiative.” He explains: “I am convinced that sport and culture speak the same language. Both the visit of a museum and the attendance of a game improve the tenor of life and create well -being.” Strengthening the link between basketball and the city, among the historical and artistic and sports roots, of which President Chiacchella’s team is one of the oldest. “This union – says the president – between art and such an important institution, such as the National Gallery, and our company, is formidable. For us, it is a day of great importance, made possible also thanks to the availability of the Palermo family.”

The partnership between the National Gallery and Perugia Basket was born from the idea of enhancing realities
Cultural and sports sports, increasing mutual visibility and with the desire to convey the values of sport and the artistic beauties of our region. “They are two excellences that come together: basketball and the National Gallery of Umbria”, explains the commissioner to the Municipality of Perugia, Pierluigi Vosi who, immediately after, adds: “The beauty of sport and that of art are combined. We keep ourselves that Perugia becomes an excellence. Admiring a picture and watching a basketball game give great emotions.”
The time comes to present the new shirts, with the logo of the Umbria National Gallery imprinted above, and then the fateful one to put a unique agreement on white on white. Many initiatives (including the card that will allow the entry to the National Gallery) and the projects included, among others, those that will concern the enhancement of the hires of the Volumni and the adjacent park. Objective “support young people and the values of sport”, as Alexander Palermo, president of the Board of Directors of Swila, underlines, because “Culture and Sport are growth tools.”

The presentation of the sports part is entrusted to the microphone of Arianna Sorrentino, while teams and staff parade, starting with the new Coach of Serie C, Francesco Barilla (“On the field we are learning to give our best”), and his collaborators (Renato Valigi, Riccardo Lupattelli, Mario Minieri, Luca Lupattelli and Luca Monacelli), up to an excited Renato Ricci (“The Perugia Basket Heart “) and Matteo Palermo for the Swill. Among the public, among others, also the manager of the youth sector, Lello Mongelli, and Stefano Lupattelli, International Scouting Consultant of the Golden State Warriors. Space also to the “100 × 100 Perugia” project, which will involve fans and enthusiasts eager to support the red and white team, summarized in the motto “You are not sponsors, you are part of the project”.
Next appointment for the two ball, at Palapellini, on October 12th, where Righetti and his companions will debut. A stone’s throw from the historic center, then, the bounce of the ball in wedges will also resonate among the rooms of the National Gallery, in the name of the well -known Latin Adagio “Mind sound in a healthy body”.
