Nikolas Badminton is a British-Canadian futurist, author, and keynote speaker known for his work in strategic foresight and futures design. He is the Chief Futurist at Futurist.com and has advised organizations including NASA, Microsoft, Google, Bayer, and the United Nations.[1]
Early life and education

Badminton earned a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Psychology and Computing from Bournemouth University, where he studied artificial neural networks and linguistics.
Badminton began his futures practice after relocating to Canada, contributing articles to publications including The Huffington Post, TechCrunchand Daily Hive.[2] He also produced thought leadership events such as Cyborg Camp YVR and Dark Futures.
In 2016, Badminton co-authored a study with research firm Intensions about AI in the workplace. The survey, covered by VICE and the BBCfound that a quarter of Canadian adults would prefer a computer program to manage them, citing perceptions of fairness and ethics.[3][4]
In 2020, he and Intensions released the Future of Life studies on youth stress and mental health trends in Canada and the U.S.[5]
Badminton appeared in the CBC documentary Smart Drugs in 2019, which explores cognitive enhancement, and consulted on the YouTube Originals series The Age of A.I. hosted by Robert Downey Jr.[6][7]
He is a regular contributor to CTV’s Your Morningappearing in segments such as “Future Fridays” on topics including transhumanism, medicine, energy, and robotics.[8]
Badminton is the author of Facing Our Futures: How Foresight, Futures Design and Strategy Creates Prosperity and Growthpublished by Bloomsbury Business in 2023.[9] The book was selected by J.P. Morgan Private Bank as its “Next Gen Pick” for the 2023 Summer Reading List,[10] and included in the Next Big Idea Club’s “Top 50 Business Books of 2023”.[11]
He also contributed the opening chapter, “Start with Dystopia”, to the Bloomsbury anthology The Future Starts Now (2021).[12]
Badminton is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). He is also listed as a member of the Resilience Frontiers initiative by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).[13]
