The announcement secures the athlete’s affiliation with the Parisian institution where he began his career and later returned during the 2017 relaunch of the judo section. Riner, who is 37, originally represented the club at the outset of his career. His most recent appearance in the club’s colors came during the 2024 edition of the Judo Champions League, after which he had lapsed from the club’s active license rosters.
Rehabilitation Following Prolonged Absence from Competition
The contract extension arrives while Riner continues his rehabilitation from a shoulder issue. Riner has been sidelined from active competition for nearly two years.
He had been slated to compete at the world championships scheduled for the following month in Azerbaijan, but was finally forced to withdraw. These physical setbacks have kept him away from competitive tatamis for nearly two years. Despite the layoff, club officials and the athlete have aligned their focus on the long-term objective of reaching the 2028 Games.

With the 2028 extension formalized, Riner’s immediate priority shifts to rehabilitation and regaining full mobility in his shoulder.
