How the Men’s Volleyball World Cup 2025 works

The World Championship is one of the main volleyball competitions organized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). The 21st edition will take place in the Philippines, between September 12 and 28, which will host the preliminary phases in two different cities, Quezon City (Manila) and Pasay.

The tournament will have 14 days and, from this edition, will be 32 participants, eight more than the past editions. In addition, the competition will also be held biennially instead of quadinyally.

In the preliminary phase, the 32 teams were distributed in eight groups of four teams and will play with each other in a single shift. The first two teams in each group qualify for the final phase. Thus, the final phase will consist of the 16 best teams of the first phase.

Mata Mata, which will be held solely in Pasay, will feature 16 matches. There will be eight games in the round of 16, four in the quarterfinals, two matches in the semifinals, the dispute for third place and finally for the title of the championship. In all, 64 matches will be held.
