This isn’t just any lawn care. Anderlecht has tapped into specialized Liège-based company, leidgens, to bring their pitch back to pristine condition. This move highlights a growing trend in professional soccer: the understanding that a world-class playing surface is as crucial as a star striker. Belgian Know-How Takes Center Stage

The competition to secure this prestigious project was fierce, with Leidgens facing off against seven or eight other European firms, including Italian and French specialists. however, it was the “Walloon know-how” that ultimately won the day. Adrien Spineine, from Leidgens’ sports field department, expressed his pride in a statement to RTBF, emphasizing the quality of local expertise.

“We were in competition with seven or eight European companies: there was in particular an Italian, two or three French women. There is a Walloon know-how which was put forward thanks to that,” rejoiced Adrien Spineine, of the sports field department at the microphone RTBF.

The Billiards Table Standard: A Monumental Undertaking

The objective? To create a playing surface so smooth and even, it’s akin to a billiards table. This wasn’t a simple sod-laying job. The operation involved a massive logistical effort. New turf rolls, flown in from Northern Italy, had to be transported and laid within 24 hours to maintain their quality. Imagine the scene: around twenty refrigerated semi-trailers making their way to Anderlecht, carrying approximately 8,500 tons of premium turf, with another 8,500 tons of the old surface removed.

Leidgens is no stranger to this high-stakes game. They are seasoned professionals, developing and maintaining around 200 sports fields annually. Their impressive client list includes collaborations with Standard Liège, the Belgian Football Association’s Federal Center in Tubize, and even projects in Luxembourg.
