Leverkusen: Hjulmand Named New Bayer Coach

Kasper Hjulmand (53) became a new coach of Leverkusen. An experienced coach, who last led the Danish national team, signed a contract until 2027. Hjulmand replaces Erika Haga (55) on the bench of the pharmaceutical club.

“We are glad that we have won Kaspera Hjulmanda, whose work we have watched for a long time,” Simon Rolfes, a new coach, said. “For several years he was his assistant at the Danish team Ismael Camenforte, who also worked for us. Kasper even personally recommended usmael. His training methods are well known in our club and Kasper also knows our club from recent years,” added.

“I have always seen Bayer 04 as a very well led, great structured and highly ambitious club. This impression has been confirmed in recent days,” Hjulmand stated after signing the contract. “It is an honor that I was entrusted with such a team. This role motivates me to form the future of Leverkusen after success in the past,” added the Danish helmsman.

Louterkusen left coach Xabi Alonso after last season, who led the ambitious unit in the 2023/24 to the premiere Bundesliga title and on top of victory in DFB-Pokal. In addition, the Rhine club sold several key players in the summer, resulting in the only point of the opening two rounds and the surprising dismissal of coach Erika that Haga after only three competition duels (1-1-1).

Hjulmand for the last time between 2020 and 2024 led the Danish national team and is now returning to a well -known environment, as he trained in Mainz in the 2014/15 season. A native of Aalborg worked twice on the Nordsjaelland bench, and in the Danish highest competition he also coached Lyngby.
