The Democratic Republic of Congo could host a major African basketball event. Kinshasa is expected to house, from October 25 to November 1, 2025, the first window of Basketball Africa League (BAL), as well as the playoffs of Women Basketball Africa League Zone 4 which is a female interclub competition of FIBA for the teams of Central Africa.
The announcement was made at the end of the first meeting of the FEBACO Executive Office, held on September 26 and 27, 2025 at the Federation’s headquarters, in the commune of Kasa-Vubu, under the chairmanship of Me Paulin Kabongo. This project, currently in a feasibility study, aims to maximize the chances of qualification of Congolese representatives. The initiative received a favorable echo from the members of Febaco, in the presence of the Secretary General André Komichelo.
The meeting was also an opportunity to assess the DRC’s participation in Afrobasket Angola 2025. After a brilliant qualifying campaign, punctuated by a historic victory against South Sudan and first place in the classification, the leopards did not confirm during the final phase. The Federal Office has recognized a mixed assessment and promises to provide the necessary adjustments for the next international deadlines.
A 42ᵉ Historical Congo Cup
Another major point: the evaluation of the 42ᵉ Congo Congo de Basketball, organized simultaneously in Lubumbashi, Likasi and Kolwezi.
This edition scored a turning point, with 27 clubs from 11 cities and 9 provinces at the start. In men, the BC SCTP has established itself, while among the ladies, the victory returned to the BC CNSS.
FEBACO welcomed the popular and organizational success of the competition, proof of the desire to promote basketball throughout the country, beyond modern Kinshasa infrastructure. An official award ceremony, sponsored by Rawbank, is planned Wednesday next at the federation headquarters.
On the institutional level, three Congolese arbitrators, including a woman, as well as a commissioner, were validated by the FIBA after having successfully completed the ability tests. International recognition that confirms the Place du Congo on the African basketball chessboard.
Finally, the Executive Office has examined several disciplinary files involving athletes, officials and managers. Definitive decisions will be made public at the end of the work.
If this project succeeds, Kinshasa will join the limited circle of the African capitals hosts of the ball, offering a unique showcase to Congolese basketball and an opportunity to have its clubs and its organizational know-how shine.
