Ajax returned to Amsterdam at the last minute Kasper Dolberg. The Danish striker came over from Anderlecht for an amount of ten million euros. Valentijn Driessen thinks that Dolberg can sometimes get into trouble due to the competition with Wout Weghorst.

Only a day before the transfer deadline in the Netherlands, Ajax Brian Brobbey was able to sell. The striker left for Sunderland. In Amsterdam, therefore, there was little time left to get a suitable replacement. Dolberg was the absolute top target and, after very difficult negotiations with Anderlecht, was taken back to Ajax.

However, Driessen says he is not yet fully convinced of the transfer. “You would say the striker of the Danish national team for ten million euros is actually a bargain. But we know how he is and often it is a gold or an iron with him and you often don’t see him. We just have to wait and see if it is all good enough.”

Battle

Dolberg should compete with Weghorst in Amsterdam. The latter previously won the fight from Brobbey and Driessen that he will also make it difficult for the Danish newcomer. “That thinks in himself: I eat it up. Of course, that competition is now loosening. Of course, he actually had to cover it against Brobbey, because Brobbey always started in the base, if he was fit. This season Heitinga for Weghorst Koos and he actually realized it. Dolberg will have to conquer his place.”

Nevertheless, Driessen is very curious how Heitinga will fill in the spits position at Ajax now that he also has Dolberg at his disposal. “If you need someone who pulls the cart, who leads, who pulls, who sucks, who does everything to win, then you have a good thing about Weghorst and not to Dolberg. That will be a nice assessment that Heitinga has to deal with at Ajax,” he says.
