FC Barcelona is facing a notable midfield blow with both Fermín López and Gavi sidelined due to injuries. López is expected to miss approximately three weeks with a left leg hamstring issue, while Gavi will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee meniscus, potentially keeping him out for about a month.
The 22-year-old López sustained his injury during Sunday’s La Liga match against Getafe, coming on as a second-half substitute in Barcelona’s dominant 3-0 victory. This win kept the catalan club within two points of league leaders Real Madrid.
López’s absence will impact crucial upcoming league fixtures, including matches against Real Oviedo and Real Sociedad. He will also miss Barcelona’s Champions League quarterfinal clash against paris Saint-Germain. The team will be without his services throughout January.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Gavi has had a limited role this season, appearing in only two matches since late August. After attempting conservative treatment for his meniscus injury, medical staff have now opted for surgery. This procedure is anticipated to sideline him for roughly a month.
