Luguentz Dort, Oklahoma City Thunder, signs the golden book of the city of Montreal

After accessing the NBA summit with the Thunder, Luguentz Dort was in the heights of Old Montreal Wednesday at the Montreal City Hall.

He signed the city’s golden book there, while mayor Valérie Plante underlined her community involvement and her excellence on the ground.

“He rolled his bump-a little guy from here, from Montreal-Nord,” said Plante, in his speech. He is a model and he inspires. I want to highlight its exceptional career focused on determination, perseverance and the notion of giving the next one.

The ceremony took place at the end of the afternoon in the presence of members of his family, several dozen young basketball players and personalities from the sports environment-without forgetting Rumble, the Thunder mascot.

Dort also thanked her family and the people around her. He said that his family was his source of motivation in more difficult times when he left Montreal at 16, to start a course that was going to lead him to the NBA.

Master of ceremonies, MEEKER Warrier notably talked about the importance of a model as sleeps for those who have Haitian roots.

The Larry O’Brien trophy had been brought to the Town Hall for the occasion on Wednesday.

As defensive but also a strength in the three -point shots, Dort helped Oklahoma City (OKC) to be crowned the NBA champions on June 22.

Dort has been widely involved in the community for several years, among others with its foundation, Maizon is sleeping.

During the first months of the pandemic, in 2020, he went to the Jewish general hospital, with the Brookwood Elite basketball program, to give around thirty pairs of sports and meals to front line stakeholders.

The 26-year-old athlete also helped to ensure that basketball courts are renovated and embellished at the St-Laurent Park in Montreal-Nord, where he began to practice this sport. The unveiling took place last year.

Also in 2024, he took part in two campaigns breaking the illusion, to educate young people to the misdeeds of vaping.

Bronze medalist with Canada at the 2023 World Cup, Olympian the following year, Dort was able to savor the NBA championship this year, with OKC.

A personal summit

During the series, he delivered seven games from 12 points or more and four games of three or more flights, while the Thunder defeated Memphis, Denver (in seven games), Minnesota and Indiana (in the ultimate match also).

During match 5 against the Nuggets, he collected his 12 points in the second half including three three -point shots in 2:01, in the last quarter.

Its far strikes reduced the advance of the Nuggets to 90-84, 92-87 and 92-90.

The Thunder prevailed 112-105, taking a crucial 3-2 lead in the series.

In the regular season (his sixth campaign), Dort established a personal summit with a success rate of 41.2 % for three -point shots, finishing 18th in the NBA in this chapter.

He scored 10 games of 18 points or better in the regular season – including an evening of eight three -point shots on March 10, against the Nuggets.

Its primary role is however in defense, very often to try to counter or limit the best opposing marker.

His work in this regard has been rewarded: for the first time in his career, Dort was appointed to the first team of stars in the League in Defense.

Reflecting his fiery game, he recovered 18 lost balloons during the series, ranking second in his family at this level.

Dort is also a model of tenacity and perseverance. He was not chosen during the 2019 draft. Several saw him repeated at the end of the first round, but the long evening at the Barclays Center, where he was, ended without hearing his name.

Dort, however, accepted a two -part contract with OKC and spent a dozen games in the G League, before starting to break into the NBA.

In the fall of 2023, the Montreal public welcomed it and acclaimed warmly at the Bell Center, during a preparatory match against the Pistons de Detroit.

His supporters will be able to reconnect with him on Thursday at Pilon Park in Montreal-Nord, where a big party will start at 11:00 am.

On the menu: presentation of the champions trophy, music, sports activities and the BBQ, among others.

The mayor of the Montreal-North district, Christine Black, was also at the ceremony on Wednesday.

Friday and Saturday, Dort will hold the third edition of his Elite Basketball camp in Montreal-Nord.

His more community camp, called Lu The Beast, should be back in 2026, for a fifth edition.

Thunder’s preparatory matches will take place from October 5 to 17.

Mark Daigneault’s team will start defense of the title on October 21 at home against Houston, as kick -off of the new NBA season.

Among the other sport personalities who signed the guest book in 2025, there was Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Rodger Brulotte, in May, and the general manager of UCI Aminaya, in July.

In 2023, the town hall also welcomed the champion editions of the Montreal Alouettes and Carabins of the University of Montreal.
