Liepaja’s young basketball players among LJBL Outstanding »Irliepāja

On August 16, the Xiaomi Arena hosted a special event in Riga, where Swedbank and the Latvian Basketball Union honored the excellence of the Latvian Youth Basketball League (LJBL) – young basketball players, who are successful not only on the basketball court but also in training. Overall, the most award -winning outstanding comes from the capital – 175 students from Riga received such recognition, followed by Ogre with 31. However, there are no shortage of outstanding in other cities and regions. Liepaja ranks third, followed by Cesis with 18 outstanding. Meanwhile, Jelgava and Ventspils are proud of 16 new talents. However, the award -winning young people include representatives from all regions of Latvia – from large cities to smaller counties like Nica, Rucava, Baldone and Roja.

Equally important is to note schools and sports centers that have come out with their students’ achievements. This year Jugla High School boasts the highest number of outstanding – 13 young people, followed by Smiltene High School with 12 outstanding. These results confirm that there are educational institutions in both large cities and smaller counties that successfully contribute to the balance between athletic and academic success.
