Goa to Host 2025 West Zone Badminton Championships | Goa News

Goa is all set to host the prestigious Yonex Sunrise Inter State West Zone Badminton Championships 2025 from September 3 to 6, at Campal indoor Stadium, Panaji. The championship, organised under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India; will bring together the top talent from western India with teams coming from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and the hosts Goa to battle for supremacy.

The action will commence on September 3 from 9.30 am onwards with the Team Championship quarterfinals and semi-finals lined up in Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Men’s Team and Women’s Team categories. The finals of the Team Championships are scheduled for September 4 at 9:30 am.

From September 4 at 2:30 pm onwards, the focus will shift to the individual events in Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, culminating with the Individual Finals on September 6 from 9:00 am onwards.

The championship promises to be a thrilling affair with several of India’s leading badminton players in action. Among the star attractions are Rounak Chouhan from Chhattisgarh (India Rank 4 in Junior Boys and Men’s Singles), Sarvesh Yadav from Maharashtra (India Rank 7 in Junior Boys Singles), Dev Ruparelia from Maharashtra (India Rank 1 in U17 Boys Singles), Taarini Suri from Maharashtra (India Rank 2 in Junior Girls Singles), Tanoo Chandra from Chhattisgarh (India Rank 3 in Junior Girls Singles), Darshan Pujari from Maharashtra (India Rank 5 in Men’s Singles), and Tasnim Mir from Gujarat, an India International player of repute. Madhya Pradesh will also field strong contenders in Yash Raikwar, Adityom Joshi, and Aishwarya Mehta, ensuring high-quality encounters on court.

Speaking about the significance of the event, Manoj Patil, President of the Goa Badminton Association, said: “We are proud to host these Championships in Goa during the 60th anniversary year of the Association. The presence of India’s top-ranked players from the West Zone makes this event a showcase of the finest talent and will inspire our budding shuttlers.”

On Goa’s team preparations, Praveen Shenoy, Secretary of the Goa Badminton Association; remarked: “Our Goa teams have been training hard under the watchful eyes of Coaches Navneet Nasnodkar and Anup Kushwaha during the preparatory camp. The players are eager to test their skills against some of the powerhouse teams of the West Zone, and we look forward to putting up a spirited performance.”

The Goa Squad: Women’s – Aarohi Coutoncar, Janhavi Mahale, Saanvi Audi, Shivanjali Thite, Shreya Mehta, Sufiya Shaikh, Synnovia D’Souza, Ritika Chelluri, Yasmin Sayed.

Men’s Team: Advait Balakrishnan, Arjun Bhagat, Arjun Fallary, Arjun Rehani, Aryaman Saraf, Aswin Mannambalath, Ayaan Shaih, Nishant Shenai, Owais Tahasildar, Rudra Phadte, Shaheen CK, Soham Naik, Tejan Fallary, Vansh Khedkar, YouSuf Shaikh.

The championships will be supervised by BAI Referee Karthik Kamath (Karnataka) and Deputy Referee S. Venkat Narayan (Tamil Nadu), with Parag Chauhan as Organising Secretary. Tournament Directors Arnold Rodrigues and Darwin Barreto will ensure smooth conduct of matches, supported by qualified technical officials from all five West Zone states.

With intense competition expected over four days and the presence of top Indian talent, Goa’s sports lovers can look forward to a spectacular celebration of badminton at Campal.
