The sacred trinity of the simulators is probably formed undisputed by the Microsoft Flight Simulator, the Farming Simulator and the ETS/ATS. If you look at accessibility, number of players and scope, there is simply no way. Well, SIM racing and railway simulations are also not to be scoffed at, but the general public is probably more of one of the first three.

But there is trouble in paradise. Saber Interactive has continued to fight in the niche of the simulators in recent years. While Snowrunner, Mudrunner and Co still put various challenges and less everyday work in the foreground, Road Kings could take a completely different way.
The first trailer from Road Kings already plays with the feelings of every trucker: thick ami semis, wobbly head figures in the cab and of course a driver in a denim jacket with a trucker cap. In addition a rough country soundtrack. Every ATS fan itches directly in my fingers – including me, and that’s why it was time for two short trips behind the wheel.

The driver can be adjusted individually.
Why another simulator?

With the Euro Truck and the American Truck Simulator, we actually have everything we need for the perfect truck life. If something is still missing, the community has basically been cared for with mods. But there is one thing that is missing in both games: storms.
While SCS software was still deliberately foregoing storms to create a relaxed and meditative simulation, all disasters were turned upwards at Saber. Right at the beginning of my demo I break into a hurricane. I feel how the wind pushes against my trailer and it becomes more and more difficult to keep the trail.

Natural disasters are an integral part of Road Kings.
So it was probably the same for some other colleagues on the highway. Vehicles are crisscrossed. So I have to reduce the speed and maneuver around the carts. On top of that, it also defused the street. In places, it is fragile or has completely set up. Reduce speed further, be careful where I go, and then it finally goes into the safe parking garage.
I feel like disasters!
Anyone who complains now, because that doesn’t sound realistic at all, should stop whining. I can understand that everyone likes it because we were packed in cotton wool in the ETS and ATS and embedded on roses, but that is also part of it! Maybe not quite as extreme as in this walking-dead scenario, but so far I have simply lacked that.
On my second route it was more traditional. I look for an order in my HQ that I can do according to my current level. Of course I think economically and invited a little more than I should. But as you say so nicely: it is only forbidden when you are caught.
On the road again
So I go on a journey through American suburbs and highways to the customer. The gameplay feels very usual. Every ATS and ETS players can be found immediately. I cannot describe how the game feels with controller because I was given a complete truck setup. With a view to the console variant, that would have been quite interesting.

In the game you can choose between different trucks.
After all, the game was quickly gone. So far, ATS and ETS were only available for the PC. In the meantime, both games have appeared in the Playstation and Xbox store. So Road Kings cannot look forward to a console throne.
I look forward to Road Kings and I am very excited to see when a first demo will appear. So far it is only known that Road Kings will probably be released in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. It is just as unknown when the two established simulators should appear on the consoles.
Competition revives the business and I am optimistic that Road Kings can mix the area of trucker simulations vigorously. I am sure that SCS software also looks exactly what Saber is doing.
Transparency note: A preliminary version of the game was made available for the creation of this article.
